Probably, from the perspective of Canon ![]()
B&H says the GR IV will be up for presale at 6:00pm ET, Wed Aug 20
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1898564-REG/ricoh_gr_iv_digital_camera.html
I see that. Maybe for celebration if/when I get a permanent job (the excuse).
Did you read somewhere if addons like the nisi filter set or the wide angle converter will be compatible? I didnāt find anything yet.
I have not found anything either. I donāt actually have any of those things, so it doesnāt matter much to me.
Itās a new lens, apparently, fwiw.
Yeah the adapter mount system could still be the same. Would be nice but letās wait and see
Definitely a GAS for next year
You mean next week?
Iām wondering if it will go back order for a while. I want the 40mm equivalent instead of the 28mm.
Everything seems to go on back order. Iām going to sleep with my laptop beside me and setting an alarm for 3AM.
Iāll call my local camera store and get on the waiting list.
Holys mokes, thatās the kind of nerdery-driven development and matching eye-watering price tag that also lives in the keyboards scene, where folks will happily spend incredible amounts of money on a such-and-such novelty machined alu case with exactly those switches and a bespoke kit of keycaps. Sometimes theyāll even type on the keyboard, or at least put it in the rotation of theyāre half-a-dozen favorites.
Totally not my end of the market, but I love to see the enthusiasm and dedication to the craft.
Speaking of which, I just took delivery of a key switch tester. Just a little board with twelve different switches. To my relief, the ones I like best are the ones I have in my keyboard already.
The problem is, keyboards, like cameras, are tactile devices that you can only appreciate by using them with your own hands. As such, they thrive in online advertisement, as no amount of YouTube will satiate your curiosity in how theyād feel in your hands. And likewise, any keyboard or camera will do the basic job of typing or picture-taking just fine. So itās all a bit of a scam, really.
But I sure do find joy in a nice keyboard and camera. And bicycle. And gaming-device. Iām really not very good at resisting advertisements, am I? Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah, I was about to call my camera store for that sweet, sweet GR IV, which will surely be leagues better than my perfectly serviceable GR III. ![]()
You mean to say youāre not taking 2 or three semi-obscure switches and creating a wholly new frankenswitch out of them? Mere casual! /s
At least thanks to china, for good or ill, the keyboard hobby is 1/3 as expensive as it used to be and you get better quality at that. The camera market wasnāt so fortunate ![]()
Keychron offers some very nice boards with hot swappable sockets and decent quality switches for less than 80ā¬. A few years ago that didnāt even cover your soldering iron so you could solder your own switches since there were no hot swappable boards
Speaking of soldering irons, those have come down in price too.
The sheer amount of diverse, open source board designs is also crazy. A Keychron was my gateway, now Iām dailying wireless 40% splits.
Hungary will be celebrating this release with fireworks!
(Locals will be under the illusion that this is about the usual state holiday that day, but donāt let that fool you. Even the timing works out out because of the time zone difference.
)
I canāt waste this opportunity to rant about a funny āhappeningā in Portugal.
A firework ban came into effect a few days ago, so guess what all the municipal chambers did a few hours before the ban? They literally sent up all their firework stock. The ban is because the country is on red alert due to wildfires and canāt risk it with fireworks. ![]()
A very āinterestingā article entered my news feed today - a roundup of the ābestā compact cameras for travel:
It looks like we should all be checking out the Duvudulu, Pedtail, Yoodee and easily pronounceable XNSIAKXA cameras! ![]()
