My try. Nothing special except in GIMP; selected dog with foreground extraction tool, sharpened him and darkened background. By the way, I highly recommend foreground extraction tool in GIMP with Levin-Matting machine!
I had a brief 2nd go. As G’Mic’s refocus nearly coped I tried again but presharpened to give it a bit of help which seemed to work on the teeth. Not a good idea. The refocus started producing white spots on the dog’s nose.
Another go to try and improve refocus. Mix of RT and the GIMP. Gimp’s refocus will bring back detail but the dog’s nose looks a bit odd due to dimples which look a bit over the top so I backed off and hand blurred them a bit
Where would one find this machine? I checked the couple versions of Gimp I have installed and Global matting is my only option, and couldn’t find anything about it in a couple online queries… thanks
Here’s my pass… Turned out dull compared to above entries but sharing it anyway…
This was an older (and more sophisticated) method of foreground selection that was much better than the then-current SIOX implementation. If you’re using a dev version of GIMP (2.9.X) then you’ll likely already be using it (we’ve integrated it into the FG selection tool in new versions).
I decided to try something in RawTherapee that’s different from my usual workflow: a dark and moody edit. Think about suddenly meeting this little guy while hiking in a deep and misty forest.
