[PlayRAW] Autumn Island

Cheap ND filter.

Not meant to be realistic… Quite close to Agriggio’s version it seems.

My attempt using Filmulator.

I used the pre-film histogram to correct the WB (using the precise input dials), 100 drama, and unusually for me I turned up vibrance to 38 and saturation to 64.

I like the image and @houz edit, hence I stole the crop. For my personal taste I would like the colours to look a little more natural, whilst still trying to maximize the saturation.

A couple of attempts in RawTherapee shamefully still on 4.2  .

First with the usual tools, I was fairly happy, except I didn’t like the whiteness of the water.

And second I continued my dip into retinex, in an attempt to address the issues with attempt 1.

EDIT: Best of both merged with a simple layer mask in Gimp

Very nice image to work on, thanks.
I wanted to -
o Have a square crop with the left tree-line diagonal going into the top corner.
o Increase the contrast in the sky and recover those highlights.
o Increase the saturation, especially in those beautiful red rocks
o Bring out the detail in the rocks
o Hang it in a frame

As this is play_raw, it is all done in darktable, no GIMP.

Raw imported with Photoflow (no correction), then Gimp

Becomes a bit reddish with my Firefox… Holy Web, pray for us!!!

Nice image to play with, @houz. There’s sure a wide variety of interpretations.

I took a crack at it with RT…

My try

Great to see all those different ‘interpretations’.

All is very interesting, it`s like self portrait or every raw editor!) some more realistic, some more like painting of rainy day…

Here’s my go at it! Edited in Darktable with a touch of Gimp to finish up.

And me too, speed edit with DT only

Darktable and GIMP. Quick and dirty.
I’m not really satisfied but for first try it’s OK
I like colors of the stones.

And one from me…

CIECAM in RT and a few tweaks in GIMP.

Lots of nice takes on this photo here! Mine is darktable with two instances of the monochrome module set to different blend modes and equalizer.

RT and GIMP 2.9, a bit of everything in terms of conception …

Here is my take on this one, all done with PhotoFlow:

  • spot WB on the clouds
  • optical corrections
  • some contrast tweaking with curves, using masks to select mostly the foreground
  • increased the saturation a bit in the yellows/greens
  • HIRALOAM local contrast enhancement, stronger for the water&rock in the foreground
  • slight clockwise rotation
  • a bit of USM sharpening
  • square crop with the mountains occupying the upper third of the image

Fun! I was just in the midst of editing some Alaska pics and this fit right in to my groove:

DT for the basics and then Gimped to expand the canvas, add the clouds and curve it up.
