I think this is it
DId the link work?
I downloaded your fits file and it plate solves in Siril. In PixInsight it doesn’t plate solve. I entered M27 manually.

Did you download all the local catalogues in the settings menu?

I ran BlurXterminator on your image and it fixed the stars pretty nicely.
I hate to say it but the data is not very good. Probably the camera sensor. With a IMX571 cooled camera you should get better results. You have to work very hard to get a decent result out of this data.
This link should work,
Where do I find these local catalogues? ,as I said before I am a complete novice at this but really want to master this. I cannot change the camera it is built in to the telescope - Unistellar Equinox. Thanks for the honesty about the images I am now thinking that I am going to dump all the observations I have made over the last 3 months and start again, taking care to recalibrate the sensor, collimating and focusing the scope and hopefully improve the quality of my images
Downloaded your image alright.
From some online doc I’ve found, the Equinox scope uses an IMX224 sensor which has a pixel size of 3.75um not 2.9 (2.9 is the size for Equinox 2). And with 450mm focal and 3.75um pixel, your image solves instantly
Here is the direct link to the 4 local databases. You have to unzip them and then in Siril settings point it to wherever you have them on your drive. I see you already have the Gaia database.
I looked up your gear and at the time it was 2800€? For an alt-az mount that’s a lot of money. With that budget you can assemble a nice rig(equatorial not alt-az) with better performance. ZWO has nice cams but Touptek has similar gear with lower prices. On Cloudynights you will find more information.
Many thanks, for some reason when I input 450 focal length it changes to 450.3 but it seems to work anyway
As I said I’m a complete novice but I only paid 900GBP
I’ve downloaded the databases and unzipped them, Put them into Astrophotography folder on the iDrive but when I try to point siril to them, they are greyed out
Then you didn’t unzip them? The name of the database is shown in Siril settings, just point each .dat file to the corresponding folder.
He’s downloaded the gaia astrometry catalog via the python script, the script unzips and installs it. That’s what we see in the Preferences tab. In any case, whether or not the catalogs are local, using a wrong pixel size (or focal length or both) won’t enable to platesolve the image.
It was necessary for your original problem because it needed to nearsolve. But in Derrick’s case, it’s really just the sampling which was wrong.
I don’t think you unzipped them completely. It’s more like a temporary view mode. Otherwise I have no clue.
Again, many thanks, I had assumed when I bought the scope (on Ebay) it was an Equinx 2 but now realise it is the previous version.
I have another problem with Starnet, I am not sure which file to point Siril at. I assumed Starnet++ is the MAC equivalent of .exe but I get a message saying I do not have permission to use this file. What am I doing wrong this time?
I right clicked and open with Utility Archive
You should read our documentation. It explains everything.
I haven’t got any documentation!!!
