Question about darktable scrollbars

A darktable novice here. I was wondering if there is some CSS magic that could be used to increase the width of the scrollbars in darktable (the vertical ones on left and right hand sides of the main window). I often miss the scrollbar and accidentally hit on the area which hides the modules.

I found some old discussions about this (e.g., Change scroll bar width and/or color? - in css?, and that discussion mentioned also an old facebook post), but I couldn’t get those examples to work in 5.6.

Any pointers how to achieve this?

You don’t actually say what you have tried. This might work for you, in preferences/general/the CSS tweaks area:

scrollbar.vertical slider {
  min-width: 1.2em;
  min-height: 1em;
}

You might have to re-start darktable for this to have any effect.

Instead of a wider scroll bar:
I use darktable in full screen mode on Win 11.

I have the modules sidebar scrolls with mouse wheel turned off, since I want to use the mouse wheel for the tool sliders themselves. preferences → misc → mouse wheel scrolls modules sidebar by default= unchecked.

Press ‘b’ to toggle the ‘hide the sidebars’ arrows = off.

Now the modules scrollbar is at the edge of the screen. I just shove the mouse pointer all the way to the right, and it’s in the modules scrollbar.

Right side modules – avoid the need for scrolling:
I have darktable set to close other modules as I open a new one, and the new module shows at the top of the modules sidebar.

So, only very tall modules will need scrolling. I use AgX a lot, and it does need to scroll – a lot of tools in there!

I moved the histogram to the left sidebar: preferences → misc → position of the scopes module = left.
Now I have a little more room for AgX, and don’t need to scroll within it as often.

That ‘b’ to toggle the ‘hide sidebar arrow’ also hides the bottom arrow for the filmstrip. If I accidentally close the filmstrip, I have to press ‘b’ to bring the arrows back to restore the filmstrip.

Thanks, that “b” is a good tip also. I have a second display to the right of the one where I keep my darktable window, so for me the wider scroll bar is also helpful.
