I feel ridiculously fortunate that my work has introduced me to people I would never have otherwise met. I am sure that these relationships have made me a better person.

I just rm a bunch of my raw files, with no backup 
Trying photorec now to see if anything can be pulled from the SD cards. Thankfully I had already exported some edits, so not all was lost, but stillā¦
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendation for an rm software that trashes files temporarily instead of deleting from disk?
Make an alias in your shell of choice to make rm actually move things into a trash directory, somewhere? Maybe by date, so you can have a cron job or systemd timer clear out stuff a certain amount of time after deletion.
Alternatively, consider setting up sync to somewhere that does have a trash. I autosync all my photos to my Nextcloud instance, if I inadvertently delete it, I have something like two weeks to unbugger the situation. Also, if my workstation blows up, I lose nothing.

Yeah, I have daily restic backups, but in this case these files were fresh so no backups yetā¦ I might have to re-think my approach and backup as soon as I copy the files over.
For what itās worth: I run a little server (literally, itās an old HP Microserver Gen 8) that, amongst other things, runs Nextcloud. I have the client on all machines (and my phone), and sync certain stuff as soon as thereās some activity. The Microserver runs a daily incremental snapshot thingy with restic, towards a bit of Hetzner storage. If you donāt want to faff about with Nextcloud, thereās other keep-things-in-sync thingies, as well.

I already have a nextcloud instance, I just dislike using it for mass storage. For that I just use my file system + hetzner storage box backups
