Per my home weather station we swung from 107F to 76F yesterday here in central Louisiana. Also from ~40% humidity daytime to ~80% humidity overnight, following brief afternoon rain.

Setting up a windows 10 VM for some testing. My GOD is that windows Installer/setup procedure tedious! An endless onslaught of questions about things I donât want. How about a skip button âleave me the fuck alone and get me to the desktopâ !?

I can relate, a couple of months ago I created base VMs for the lab using both Windows 10 an Debian 13. The amount of install and post-install config I had to do on Windows compared to Debian was staggering. Fortunately I had to do it once, I left everything as I wanted, including our default users, so now every time we need a new independent VM in Win10 is just clone and activate.

You kids have it easy. I remember the days when merely installing Windows 95 was an accomplishment. The installer would just stall, saying it was âcopying filesâ or whatever, forever.
Now get off my lawn.

Reminds me of installing OS/2 from diskettes. On (usually) the next to last one, youâd get a disk error of some variety. Arghh⊠Same thing with old diskette-based versions of MS Office, all 31 (or whatever) diskettes of 'em. Even if the error itself wasnât fatal, it would kill the install because removing and retrying would confuse the installer.

My favourite experience installing Windows (I think it was XP): Dual boot with an already installed Linux. The Linux-partition was detected as C:, so I explicitly told it to use another partition D: and that it should format D:, not C:. Next thing it was doing, was formatting C:âŠ
Admittedly, it told so in the confirmation dialog, which I didnât read carefully enough the first time.

Honestly, I loved the floppies more than the CDs, DVD and ZIP drives for some reason.
@luator Do not get me started on that kind of behaviour. MS would rather move, rewrite and wear down entire disk sectors just to preserve its conventions rigidly. They still do.
A random, curious find on todayâs walk from work.
Saw a man and a woman, both around 60 yrs old, both with (I assume) budget DSLRs taking pictures. The man was photographing a fruit on a tree I think, the woman stuff in the grass, but from a quick look it didnât seem much to me. No idea, the location was quite random (very little to photograph), but Iâm sure they saw something I didnât

Man, didnât expect to see so many people die today. The videos out of Nepal are insane and itâs not looking good
