I guess that one exposure was even done by MPB, to get an image to read the shutter count from its metadata

Repaired unit with test shot?
Currently in the market for a new smartphone. Coming off a Pixel 4a I am baffled by how small the selection of “compact” smartphones is. I Like my 5,9 in screen! And the 143 g lightweight hands-friendly body? But as we all know hands are getting bigger and bigger so smartphone sizes must somehow adapt to our massive hands? This infuriates me. I’d not like to switch to apple for a variety of reasons and even their iPhones are growing with each new generation.
Settled for an S24 and ordered it now. Goodbye to being able to reach the opposite edge of the screen with my thumb.

Having finished culling photos from a not-so-recent holiday, I think that cameras with burst modes should come with a big red warning on the box:

You camera can take 10/20/30/… images per second in burst mode. That’s 600/1200/1800/… per minute. Yes, you read that right. Now, that bird/geyser/event/… is interesting, I grant you that, but it ain’t that interesting. You will have to cull those photos one day and select one you will want to keep. You know you hate doing that so you will not look at those photos for ages. And then, when you finally sit down to do it, after looking at maybe 20 you will give up eyeballing them and just keep a random one. So why take them in the first place?

The primary reason why I created my image viewer… It helps to have something that will display the photos instantly and make it easy to move or delete the undesired ones.
At the time all the options I tried were pretty slow, especially on my nvidia gpu, probably some DE/GUI Framework combo that was messing up the display part and causing horrible lag. On my work laptop Gwenview flew compared to my main pc.
It’s a real pain But it’s a lot of fun to hear the shutter at 11fps

Lol yes please. I was taking photos at my cousin’s wedding a year or so ago and didn’t realize I had burst mode on and well that was a ton of photos to cull.
A breathalyzer / interlock device also could have helped with that problem…

Oh yeah, I HATE culling. The one AI feature dt maybe needs is: find the group photo where all eyes are open and everybody smiles ;-).

I got a camera that does up to 11 fps RAW compared to 5 fps on my old DSLR and guess what? I use it in “single release” mode

It’s bad enough culling 100 pics taken over two or three hours. I don’t use burst mode.
I might be tempted by ore-capture, if I had it. But I don’t. The new model does, but this one has to last me quite a few years yet.
How to be better at simple culling? Apart from the obvious fails. So far, the best advice I have received is “Connect with your inner mad axeman.” But I need to get a lot more ruthless.

Or set up the site so that somedomain.com serves HTTP(S) without the www? Having subdomains for each application layer (mail, ftp, gopher , …) is kind of old school.

In the last couple of years I’ve committed to raw+darktable for everything except holiday snaps that I’m never going to post-process. So why keep the camera jpegs? Delete them.

For dt-processed pics, the full-size jpeg can easily be re-exported in the unlikely event its actually needed. For easy browsing I will keep only a 1920*1080 jpeg. They are often less than a single Mb.
Sure, culling can be done too, especially from my beginning-concert-photography years where I kept even blurred stuff. But that requires image by image consideration of the over-100,000 pics I took in my current mirrorless-camera days, and I’m never going to do that.
The above deletion of files, not pictures, would save a lot of space. I just need a round tuit. And they are hard to find.

Why not just take raw on the camera? Because I do need stuff to share on the spot.

Why do we even still use www at all? Fortunately, most websites (not all, though) work without it, nowadays.
