RawTherapee 5.12 Released

RawTherapee 5.12 has arrived! It was released on May 28, but now we have an announcement on the website to go along with it. Visit the downloads page to get it:

5.12 comes with many bug fixes, translation updates, and these improvements and new features.

  • The Raw Black Points has a new option called Dehaze. It sets the black points to the minimum values in the image, which often has the effect of reducing haze.
  • Distortion Correction gained a de-fish feature that converts fisheye images into normal (rectilinear) images. It works best with the equidistant fisheye projection. The new Scale adjuster in Lens / Geometry allows manual scaling of the transformed image for when Auto-fill yields unsatisfactory results.
  • All images in a Canon RAW burst mode file are accessible. Previously, only the first 6 images were accessible.
  • A new tool called Gamut Compression applies the ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) Reference Gamut Compression operator to improve the look of highly-saturated colors and bring colors within a selectable gamut before applying other color-related tools offered by RawTherapee.
  • The Resize tool gained a framing feature that adds a decorative solid color border around the image before it is saved. Various sizing options allow great flexibility in adjusting the border thickness and image dimensions. To reflect the tool’s capabilities, it has been renamed to Resize & Framing.
  • Demosaiced floating-point DNGs are now supported.
  • The Abstract Profile tool has a new Contrast Enhancement feature that offers a simple way to add local contrast. It can be used to restore contrast lost due to the application of the abstract profile.
  • The Color appearance tool in Selective Editing gained several Tone Mapping Operators (formerly Highlight Attenuation & Levels) enhancements in Source Data Adjustments. The RGB channel Slope tone mapper (formerly Levels) has new options. There is a new Sigmoid based tone mapper.
  • More Sony lenses are recognized, improving the data displayed in the quick info overlay and enabling automatic profiled lens correction.
  • The Shadows/Highlights & Tone Equalizer tool in Selective Editing gained the Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch (GHS) global tone mapper. To reflect the tool’s new tone mapper, it has been renamed to Shadows/Highlights, Equalizer & GHS.
  • Added or improved support for cameras, raw formats and color profiles (not an exhaustive list because unconfirmed support is excluded):
    • Canon EOS R8 (DCP, black level in electronic shutter mode)
    • Fujifilm X-E4 (raw crop in electronic shutter mode)
    • Sony ILCE-7CR (pixel shift)
    • Sony ILCE-7M3 (black level)
    • Sony ILME-FX3 (black level when not using LibRaw)

Thank you to everyone who made 5.12 possible!

Great to see! Though I definitely didn’t see the renaming of Resize tool, something to correct in my next Simplified Chinese translation.

Thanks from me too!

Thanks to the whol :heart_eyes:e crew for improving my favorite image software.

I downloaded the Windows 64 version and when I tried to install it got the message “This App can’t tun on your PC . . . check with your software provider”

which windows version?

May be just download the zip, unpack into a fresh folder and doubleclick the rawtherapee.exe:

https://github.com/RawTherapee/RawTherapee/releases/download/nightly-github-actions/RawTherapee_5.12_win64_release.zip

Windows 10. I have tried using Edge and Firefox and the problem is the file does not download fully.

The Zip you pointed me to downloaded so I shall try that.

This happens, when trying to download from RT home page via Firefox:

Same thing with the same browser on a Linux virtual machine. This does not look to be a Windows-only thing …

The Exe on the github page downloads and works OK <(Release Automated Builds · RawTherapee/RawTherapee · GitHub)>

Hello Lawrence, a question about translations.

I do see that in the default language file, but I don’t see an update in the Dutch language file.

Same for this one:

TP_LOCALLAB_SHADHIGH;Shadows/Highlights, Equalizer & GHS

The Dutch file shows the old string:

TP_LOCALLAB_SHADHIGH;Schaduwen/hoge lichten & Toonequalizer

It would be very helpful if translators are informed about these kind of changes, as it is not practical (at all) to check more than 4600 entries!

Hello @paulmatth, youre right, the translator cannot check all the entries. Thats why i used a spreadsheet for the german translation with a formular to compare old and new entries.
One sheet gets the new default, the second sheet keeps the former one, and in a separete column is shown an exclamation mark, when differences are found. This is also very helpful, when tooltips and/or typos are revised, you never would be aware of.

Excellent idea Martin!

Hmm, I did a diff on the default file from RT 5.11 (August 25 2024) and 5.12 (June 2 2025) and there are about 350 changes between them!

Yes, could be, i had similar numbers of differences. Have fun with correcting ,-)

Just click “Allow Download”.

Well of course, what I meant is that this makes the RT site look a kind of “suspicious”, while downloading (pre-)dev windows installers of different programs from GitHub does not trigger such warnings.

If you don’t trust it, then just get it from github.

I trust it completely, but some entity in the internets does not. Sorry for the noise.

I don’t think RT devs can do anything about it anyways (like, should they start deploying zombie PCs to boost Rawtherapee’s download count?), and to me, it’s really the browser’s vendor’s issue (if that is an issue to begin with).
