Siril outputs a result.fit where it deleted ALL THE STARS.

For the last few days I’ve been really struggling with Siril. I’m having a hard time getting anything usable out of Siril.

One the one hand and not really my main issue, it’s really very slow. (Sequator processes the same data in 2 hours, while Siril does it in 5 hours.)

I could very well live with that if it could actually give any workable results. I’ve tried v0.99.4 to process my data (270lights, 50 flats, 50 darks, 50 biases) using the OSC_Preprocessing script but it eventually fails.

Using 0.9.12 and the DSLR_Reprocessing script I get this image where all the stars have vanished.

I am at a complete loss. What is going on?

What did you do? If you did align then as you did it on landscape (no alignment on stars here) then it is normal. Stars are rejected during stacking process.
About the time of stacking. 0.99.4 is faster (really). Siril is slower that sequator because computation done are really more important and complex too.

I did nothing manual because I don’t understand most of it. I just ran the script DSLR_Reprocessing.

Which is not really done for landscape images.
So this is normal

So only for DSOs?

Is Siril, then, not the tool to use for landscape astrophotography?

Yes you can but not with these scripts. You need to make a selection in the sky. To align only on the stars first.
Siril scripts are just a tiny part of what siril can do. A really tiny.

One last question, if you please.

Do 280 lights make sens for a landscape stack? Because I have a feeling it’s a bit overkill.

I mean after some testing with Sequator I didn’t notice much of a difference between stacking 30 and 280 lights.

OK, I followed this guide to the letter and at when stacking the debayered preprocessed lights Siril will still remove all my stars.

This is because you star alignement fail. What’s the result of this alignment in the console.

What if you stack with the sum stacking algorithm? I think you will see startrail?

Yes, that is correct.

Did you make a sky area selection before alignment?

No, that part isn’t in the guide. How do I do that?

Just draw a selection, in the sky, and check the “Match stars in selection” button.
