snow and colour calibration on a quite unknown castle

It’s been a while since I offered a Play Raw. So after seeing @gigaturbo’s wish to train his capabilities in editing snow, I thought he needs new stuff.

An unknown castle or the castle of the unknown … :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I might have seen a picture of it before :innocent:.
Nice shot!

Looks a bit familiar, where might it be?

As always in GIMP. I have attempted to make the castle stand out slightly more from it’s surroundings.

Thank you for the play.

Edit with ART. Despite the big halo, I think this is a nice edit. Can someone approach this without the Halo? (caused by ctl script “Generalized hyperbolic stretch”):

The shot is so nice, this could be a very nice print on a wall :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:

I tried to apply most of the sharpening and local contrasts on the castle so that it pops out and the trees do not become “noisy”

I wanted to add warmth to the castle while keeping the snow cold looking.

I gave it a bit of a softer look. Initially I wanted to try out a polarizing lens effect that I’d found in dt 4.6, but forgot where it was
So I adjusted the tone, masked the sky and lowered the exposure, played with the colours and then tweaked the contrast and edges with the contrast eq and D&S.
Beautiful photo and the perfect time to catch it.
I was hoping to highlight the horizontal light ray going across the foreground but lost sight of it during the edit.
I do like all of the higher contrast edits shown here…I think the deep contrast of the cliff face gives the image a bit more pop.

Edited in dt 5.0

I’ve tried to give the photo a softer look in the pine trees, nice picture with unique weather conditions !

Thought about keeping the spruce trees blue, but, in the end, did selectively desat the color on them. Enhanced sharpness and texture of the castle as well. Lot’s of other steps done that are too numerous for me to remember and voila. lol
