I have never witnessed sunset in the savannah, but I imagine it like this:
As I wasn’t there, I didn’t quite know what color palette to shoot for, but this made sense to me. In any case, this is a gorgeous picture!

A drawn mask on the darker areas, with feathering. I’m editing in a brightly lit room, I hope this comes out OK.
Trying to keep it natural so didn’t mess with color much.

@Haematopus Glad you liked it. I was trying to get what you saw in the field. It was a difficult image to edit. I remembered that you wanted.

The journey taught lessons, but I dislike my results. I’ve got two versions:
One strongly brightened one, where I try to follow OPs remarks regarding vibrancy a brightness. I edited this some time ago, but I remember I struggled heavily with the bushes, and having to compromise, badly. I really strongly dislike artifacts around borders, like halos or localized colorization. I could not avoid that.
The second one started out as “what can I do with almost no editing”, but then experimented with some blend modes, and finally went for a very dark image with silhouettes. I like that the outlines just so hint at the herd, tickling my curiosity, but at the end I could not pull off what I wanted.
