And the Steirersee on the Tauplitzalm
The Tauplitzalm hike was also quite an adventure… according to hiking guides it’s an easy hike. It is easy in the sense that I did not really get sour mouscles but… especially around this lake it’s… I guess this was the most difficult hike of my life, well it’s rocky and sometimes the trail is just interrupted by… well rocks… and…
Well I want to mention one more thing because I am one of those childless people who know best how to educate children (irony).
So I have been on several “intermediate” (from my point of view at least a bit dangerous hikes) this year… well and I keep seeing lots parents with little children, like kindergarden children that can barely walk and even (mostly) mothers carrying tiny babies as well. I think those people are so irresponsible. I will never forget this image: a father with a maybe 4 year old boy, a bit overweight boy, but cute. The path was interrupted by rocks and to the right there was just the abyss and to the left more or less a vertical wall. I was there with a friend. And so we stopped and thought for a few minutes where to climb and then we went down a bit and found an easier way. But the kid and the man were standing there at the most vertical part and the man was shouting at the kid “go up there!”. The kid was so afraid, it tried to go up but it could not and it almost fell and I thought I had to try to catch it. I think eventually the man grabbed to kid and just put it up to the next level.
Well. Anyway. I think those parents just want to see the great landscapes and are taking their kids with them because they don’t know what else to do with them.
Well there are also those fathers who are actually willing to carry their kid up the mountain because they think that they can enjoy the view but I am not sure about the latter at all and it’s not worth the risk.
I know, there are different opinions about this, but it is more likely that the kid will hate hiking because it was forced to go hiking. But there are also some kids that like it. I think most are afraid. Anyway, I would only take an older kid to an intermediate hike and I would first try to talk about the dangers with it. If I see that it likes it and understands the danger it’s ok.
But really what I see mostly is kids that are so tired they can barely stand on their feet and keep asking “when are we there?”
Well, anyway, the Tauplitzalm looks incredible, but the 6-Seen-Wanderung is not for children.
