The stunning Rafale of the French Display team

My favorite photography subject is military airplanes. Unfortunately, here in Greece there’s only one airshow each year, so I only get that one chance to capture my favorite subject.

This photo is of the French Rafale display team. I like sharing my photos on aviation-related sites, but to my dismay, this one was rejected for being “soft.”

I’m wondering—was it my editing, or the limitations of my setup (Nikon Z50 + Tamron 150–500mm lens)?

So, the photo is yours to edit!

My quick play didnt provide any meaningfully different results from your version.

If it was rejected for being “soft” they might be referring to the motion blur that really shows up in the words. The outline of the plane might be made to look crisper if you darkened the sky (creates more contrast…contrast looks like sharpness).

Looks like a fun outting if nothing else!!

@AtaraxicShrug Thanks anyway! It is a fun experience although if I want to take great aviation pics, I must invest a small fortune in lenses!

DT 5.3 with AGX. That is one fussy website. I used diffuse or sharpen module presets for lens deblur and played around with denoising and sharpening. I also used the new capture sharpening (DT5.3 feature) and also astrophoto denoise modules.

According to M. Fourier it was a bit soft. G’MIC FFT magnitudes >50%:

Not much detail more than about 1/4 the Nyquist frequency …
