Underexposed Egret

Hi! This is my first post on this forum. I’m new to both photography and editing. I’m really happy with this shot of an egret with a fish, although it’s underexposed (it was quite late when I took the photo). I thought I could fix it in post, but I’m not happy with the result. How would you approach this?
Thanks you all!

Welcome, @evl92photography! Lots of textural complexity in your capture, so I opted to crop in to focus on the egret and its snack.

The exposure was just fine, btw, and actually preserved highlight detail quite well with minimal shadow noise; the main challenge being the green/magenta moire pattern that emerges in the ripples around the subject, which can be treated with modules like chromatic abberration (there’s an example in my .xmp file), at the cost of losing color information in the affected areas.

Thanks for sharing!

This is my attempt. Adjusting luminosity and color. Framing looking for the “golden spiral”.
