Whilst experimenting with a trying to make some automatic contact sheets in Little Backup Box (Automatic Contact Sheet Generation), I came across this excellent script from Outyer:
VCS 1.13.4 released – OutlyerNet
It requires FFmpeg, imagemagick and gawk installed. I’ve had it working on Raspbian but have had issues with getting gawk to work on Raspbian-lite.
It’s OK on a Raspberry Pi 4, very slow on a Raspberry Pi Zero (but works OK).
Running it on a boring video from my bike using the command:
~/scripts/vcs-1.13.4.sh -n 20 -c 5 -u "little-backup-box" -H 220 -j -o "test.jpg" Sequence\ #1.mp4
gives the following video contact sheet:
