I’m getting a new laptop with an nvidia 4060/8Gb. It will be a fresh Tumbleweed install.
Between XFCE4.2+X11 or KDE6+Wayland, which one would have the least amount of problems and/or be the the easiest?
Thanks

Best check on the darktable site if wayland is supported. If not (it wasn’t a few months back), you have your answer, I guess. Though I’m not sure XFCE or KDE are relevant here.
I am running DT on Tumbleweed, using KDE over Wayland. I am not having any problems.
The only problem I am currently having is nothing to do with DT, but with Hugin. It runs on the above configuration, but it is flaky. Xpano works, but gives me the error “ERR_CAMERA_PARAMS_ADJUST_FAIL” every time I try to stitch images.
X11 if you want color management.
Why not KDE Plasma with X11? X11 for photography, sadly.
You can still run Plasma over X11, if you have applications that need this environment. However, the KDE team is obviously putting more effort into Wayland.
True, but I also thought that was true for most desktop environments. I see now that the XFCE wiki has “agreed guidelines” that states:
Keep X11 compatibility for the foreseeable future
