ART new releases

Hi,
The appimage build service has apparently stopped working some time ago, unfortunately. I’ll see if I can create a binary distribution for Linux. Otherwise, compiling yourself should not be hard, just follow the instructions on rawpedia.

Impossible for @photomar because of: ‘never using Rawtherapee anymore’

It’ll be good to have a non compiling method of installing.
I’ve introduced many photographers to darktable RT and now ART , many have also come over to Linux but only a few have embraced any coding or compiling, most do donate where they can, because they know most devs do it for free and in their own time.
Thanks.

I’ve uploaded an experimental linux64 build at

https://bitbucket.org/agriggio/art/downloads/ART-1.8.1-linux64.tar.xz

No installation required, just unpack and run ART. I’ve only tested it in a Ubuntu 20.04 VM, so I have no idea whether this works for other distributions/versions. But there’s a chance that it might…

Works perfectly on Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. Thank you!!!

I have just released version 1.8.2. This is a minor release that only fixes a couple of glitches (including one regression); the only interesting thing (maybe, for somebody) is that I’ve signed the release files with the following key (which is stored also in the OpenPGP keyserver):

I’ve now been using ART for around three months, and it just gets better and better. Thanks again, @agriggio - it’s a great program.

Hoping, in my own small way, to contribute to improving ART, I’d like to report a minor glitch that I’ve noticed. When a Tone Curve is active, the image brightness/contrast varies according to the Zoom value. The problem disappears if the Tone Curve is not in use. Here’s a screen extract:

Note the difference in the foreground grass and the masonry behind, in the Detail Window, when compared to the main (Zoomed-to-Fit) image. [BTW, this occurs when Zooming the main window to 100%, but using the Detail Window was more covenient for showing the problem.]

I’ve tested this in a number of different images, and the same thing occurs, so the problem isn’t a quirk of this particular image file.

Anyone else encountered this?

This difference may be linked to the use of Contrast slider in Tonecurves, I recall seeing a similar discrepancy.

It is indeed possible, now that you mention it, if you have “log tone mapping” switched off. I’ll see what I can do about it

Thanks for the reply, @michaelezra. You’re definitely on to something, there! I’ve just checked out your suggestion, and the problem seems to disappear (or, at least, reduce dramatically) when the contrast slider is set to zero. In the example I provided above, it had been at +29.

Thanks again. :+1:

You’re right, @agriggio… Log Tone Mapping was indeed switched off, in my example. Also, a couple of trials revealed that the LTM on/off setting does have an influence on the problem.

Thanks for looking into it! :+1:

Version 1.8.3 is available since yesterday. Only minor changes:

  • thumbnails in the file browser can be sorted wrt different criteria

  • there’s a shortcut to copy/paste whole masks

  • there’s a new “balanced” highlight recovery method

  • plus bug fixes
