[Capture Challenge] Charge your battery and take some photos

Great images!

Nice to see “ancient tech” in the age of drones. You really have to trust your kite and your skills!

Strong wind pushing the North Sea into the Weser, a nearly full moon and good rainfalls for weeks give a bit too much water. Luckily it’s not salty, only river water that can not go into the sea.

(First day I really got my camera out in weeks, so on topic…)

Most probably she is asking for irish whiskey

There’s not a single bottle in that collection that is available here in Canada. Some product from almost all of those distilleries have been available at some time or other, but never any of yours. Just put your headphones on and enjoy!

That doesn’t surprise me. Some of them are from distilleries that are too small to get themselves into the export trade, others sell all their output to blenders. I am slightly surprised that you can’t get Laphroaig or Talisker though.

Long years ago I sailed in the Swedish and Finnish archipelagos.

The guy who I sailed with told me that if the Swedish authorities could find a street that was one way in both directions, then this is where they would put all the off-licences (liquor shops).

I try to tell her that it is a mood thing, some days you like an Island whisky, other days you like a Speyside…

I am slightly surprised that you can’t get Laphroaig or Talisker though.

But are these the “plain” Talisker or Laphroaig? A long time ago the only “variable” in a distillery output was the age, but now they seem to have read way too much marketing books.

The Talisker is their Port Ruighe release, which is finished in port casks. To be honest, it is too sweet for my taste.

The Laphroaig is “plain”, but from a first-fill quarter cask. The smaller cask means a more intense flavour.

That’s the correct answer. We can always get Talisker and Laphroiag, just not the ones Colin has. I have Talisker 10 and Talisker Storm in my cabinet right now. We can also regularly get Mortlach, Bunnnahabhain, and Caol Ila, and occasionally Benrinnes and Clynelish, but again not the ones Colin has.

Thanks! Here’s my latest one, taken last weekend. I thought I was out of luck with the sun behind a cloud, but a little patience paid off and I was eventually rewarded with some nice golden light just before sunset.

Something a bit different — I suppose this is about as close to an attempt at wildlife or landscape photography that a street photographer is ever likely to get.

Ha ha, how close were you to this person? Breathing down their shoulder?

I was about 40 cm from the back of his head — hoping he didn’t turn around and notice me while I manually focused on the castle through the ‘hoop headband’ he was wearing. It was taken at the Pride Cymru event in Cardiff, Wales.

In tourist mode - Budapest by night, all clichéd items in a single photo.

The large building on the left is the oversized Parliament building. It was erected in an era when the citizenry and nobility wanted to demonstrate their power to the king/emperor, and emphasise the sovereignty of the nation.

The royal castle is on the top of the hill on the right. Of course it’s much further away. Ironically, our current PM moved his office to the castle district, to the Carmelite Monastery, and the president of Hungary also resides in the castle, in the Sándor Palace.

In the middle is the often-photographed Chain Bridge. Behind that is what I think is the most elegant bridge of Budapest, Erzsébet (Elizabeth) bridge.

In the far back, the Citadella (citadel of Budapest) and the Statue of Liberty, originally erected to celebrate the Soviet troops liberating Hungary from fascist rule. It used to also have the statue of a Soviet soldier at the base, which was removed once the socialist regime ended.

Tension in our backyard this evening.
First, the sparrows where playing and the blackbirds where dining…

But behold, a high whistle and all the little birds where away in less than seconds. Incoming is this guy, also in search of a meal.

A few minutes later, peacefulness again.

shot with the Mamiya 300/5.6

That’s almost iconic somehow! Very nice. I feel like it reminds me of some other work - don’'t know what though…
