Incredible shots and processing, especially the ones inside the train. Keen to see XMPs if you’re willing to share.
You’re only jealous cos my photo was on the BBC weather forecast last night
Thanks!
There’s nothing too fancy really - I suspect the old sensor and lens have contributed a chunk of the final effect.
I did use a technique I think you mentioned recently (unless it was @jandren) … that being dropping the target white luminance in sigmoid. Very nice for a slightly faded look.
Here’s XMPs for a couple of them. The first had a fair bit of tweaking trying to get the colours just right.

I could make a Play Raw with one of these (or a similar shot) if there’s interest.
Congrats!
the pictures in the train are very nice color and grain-wise perfect congrats !
I’ll have a look at the xmps as well !
Jealus? Me?
Did you see the joy on the sparrow’s face? Or the proud look in the robin’s eye?
What could give me greater satisfaction?
I don’t think your birdies would have been too happy last night if they lived in Pitlochry.
Temperature dropped to -13C overnight.
Yeah, I went out yesterday morn to -4F, heard geese honking in the surrounding hills. I bet the conversation was, “You didn’t take us far enough South!!!”
We almost got that far down, way down here in the US deep south (31N latitude). It was -11C / 12F last night here. Cold enough for me.
I love the last one especially - bowed down and sad beneath a heavy burden …
I think the industrial nature of that statue fits the background nicely. The statue itself reminds me of Tales from the Loop.
Winter where I live (Desert) is still not that wintery… colder, yes, especially at nights, but rain, and snow, are very rare here, and almost never that impressive. I don’t know if it’s going to snow this year, I hope so, but I’m very doubtful that it would.
Anyway, here are some lichens on a rock (indicating of pure air, so I’ve heard, which is very nice)
And two crows (I think), which the funny story about it, is that it’s a lucky shot:
I aimed for one, and just upon the “click” - the second one photo-bombed!
And a sweet sparrow (… I think)
Crikey! That is cold for the UK.
A long time ago, I went on a day trip up a volcano. It was something like 30 degrees C when we bundled into 4x4s and headed off. There was a group of tourists in the back, and they kept staring at me and giggling to each other as I sat there in my ankle-high boots, sweater, and guillet. An hour or so later, as we climbed higher and higher into the clouds, the giggling soon stopped. Watching them slowly turn blue as they huddled together in their surfing shorts and flip-flops was quite entertaining. It’s a pitty they didn’t join us for the snowball fight when we got to the top — that was great fun.
Braemar is colder, their lowest temperature is -23C
I have had friends who were members of Mountain Rescue. They have a wealth of stories of people climbing mountains in the wrong kit and without the ability or equipment to navigate.
Today’s walk started in high fog, it’s like Henry Ford’s colour of Model T:
Any colour the photographer wants, as long as it’s white
But, finally
