Went to one of our local waterfalls this morning… Again… To get some shots.
I’ve been going to this location every season this year, and only fall of left to finish my self imposed assignment to capture it in every season.
Oooh, if we can do non-grownups-camera pictures, I can join in on the fun!
I’m currently still limited to my phone (a Samsung) which takes somewhat decent-ish adjacent pictures, provided you don’t look at result too closely. Also, I can’t keep the horizon straight to save my life. These are sooc though, so there’s that.
A heron, close to sunset
A little windmill, same area, a bit earlier.
I like taking wide-angle shots, too. All the more horizon to display in all its crooked glory.
I’m saving up for a decent camera (leaning towards a Z50 II), hopefully that’ll improve the quality somewhat, although I harbor little hope about helping me keep things level…
Hi @dnzm and welcome! These are some nice captures. The first one has great use of line and shape and really nice movement to it. Looking forward to see what you can do with a “real” camera ![]()
Your camera app should have an electronic level you can enable to help with that. Or just really lean into it and make it your style ![]()
The auto-level performed by the IBIS in my R7 is the unexpected feature I appreciate the most.
Thanks for the kind words! I do have some experience with a D70, many moons ago, part of that (and the memory of how much better and more rewarding shooting it was) is bringing me back into decent cameras.
The silly thing is: the option is there, and it’s on, and I see the bar turn yellow if the phone considers itself straight, but I still have a lot of shots that are… just off. Possibly because I often use the volume rocker as shutter, especially if the on-screen button is a bit hard to reach because I’m holding the phone in some weird angle, that’s a surefire way to move things.
I fear it’s partly me just not paying attention to the bar anymore at them moment of taking the picture, I might be checking the composition, or making sure that the subject is doing something noteworthy, or what have you.
Just claim you like using a Dutch Angle because the disorientation makes people see mundane objects in a new light… you are an artist, so its ok to bullshit like one ![]()
Well, I am Dutch, so that’s totally believable.
I think I found my new schtick.
Don’t feel bad, a camera is a camera
The most important photographs in history were taken with pinhole or a glass plate camera which your smartphone outperforms handily.
Goodest boy!
Nice one. I used to have these in my garden. Maybe time to reintroduce…
Playing around with Olympus’ “ART” mode: Instant film look + some frame. In some cases colours are weird and excessively oversaturated but I think here it works quite well.
Copying link here as seems relevant subject after forgetting my camera bag on trip to Istanbul and using free trial of Leica Lux app and various presets.
