Enchanting beech in the evening sunlight

This image challenged me with its greens. I had a hard time showing the feeling of the sun shining in from the right side. Please try it and give me some inspirations…

Great picture, I mostly relied on turning down the shadows to emphasise the sunlight, and turned the white balance to 5500k (sunlight), it’s taking a really long time to export, I think I turned iterations up in diffuse and sharpen, I just went and ate lunch, it’s finished now

I mainly used ColorbalanceRGB to go for the requested effect. dt 4.6.1

I like the darker softer version here to emphasize the beautiful illumination:

Boris, I’m deeply impressed! Thank you for your effort, I’m already studying how you achieved the strong effect! As you always show in your videos - I learned to first develop a vision for the final result and then work to achieve it.

You are a true darktable master.

To me this is a perfect example of a scene where there is so much perceptual processing done by our brains… people will make some nice looking images but crafting a digital image that captures that rich glow that most certainly would have been observed in that moment is almost impossible

I love the edit by Boris.

Exactly, Todd! Therefore I’m so excited about the different interpretations of everyone here.

I find it hard to describe as I am not a trained photographer or artist. But I guess what I am trying to convey is that sense of volume or density in sunlight. Its like trying to recreate authentic fog to look and feel at it would in the scene. I think that is really hard at least with the current technology… Sunlight often seems to have that same sort “volume” or density and its hard at least for me to find images that have that feeling about them… even the hue or the sunlight can be hard to nail…

To show the power of the sun, I would probably light up the entire forest and give it a slightly foggy appearance. This I have done by reducing the overall contrast between the light and dark and muting the green slightly

Another version. Being evening sun, I gave a yellowish tinge to the environment
