Fun with prawnsushi

Not your idea of fun, eh? :joy_cat:

It can also timeout after a while, or crash, on weaker systems. Maybe experiment with resizing, cropping or inlays… in the preview.

I’d do an awful half baked cake job if it.

Did it crash on you?

Tried with resizing beforen applying the filter but it didn’t work out.
Didn’t try cropping but i doubt that would work anyway. It would need to know the size of the full image for this to work, and it would not be faster, i guess, since i’d be generating at the real size.
What do you mean by inlays?

Well i had the idea to make filters that act like modules for other filters. Just like i used the tree filter for underwoods. And you asked for sky and ground, but that was already planned, but not started yet. Not sure how to fake or fail this yet. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Right now i’m trying to integrate illuminate 2D shapes in underwoods. It looks strange, got to tweak it more, not sure iit’ll fit for this. Plus there’s some kind of fringe around the trees that i don’t get when using light_relief.

By the way, @prawnsushi , I don’t know if you know this, but you can import .gmic files for G’MIC plugin. I actually made a G’MIC toolkit for RVGL (Re-Volt game), and people can import it into G’MIC, and use it as a separate menu. I’m using that for testing my GUI filters once it’s nearly ready and sometimes, I use it for other reasons too like making a new version and comparing with old version.

Yes I know, I am using my own community file like this.

What do you mean? It opens a window like the gmic demos? One of them has custom green sliders.

Something like this:

image

Some of those aren’t found in default G’MIC with updates.

Like Reptorian Beta filter is a menu, and that’s used for testing nearly finished filters. And Development ones is used on user.gmic and it’s used for not even nearly finished filters. GUI Test Filters is simply a bunch of toy filters to study dynamic GUI, so I can see my options for my filters. Personal Filters are useless filters that are only usable for me only.

All of those are menus.

Oh right, I know this, I have my own crappy stuff unsorted at the bottom of the menus.
But usually i just type the beginning letters since the textbox has the focus by default when you open gmic_qt.

Added a few sliders to control the shape of the trees in underwoods:

Replaced point particles with ellipses.
Full preview makes the seeding work as intended, but the preview if of course slower.

But of course silliness is now possible

mmm this doesn’t really work:
underwoods4

It seems that light_relief adds a “dot” at it’s origin. I had to turn it down a lot for this.
Plus, the BG is kinda wild lol.

Playing with the new randomizer button and getting some Ian Miller vibes out of Underwoods (i named this next version Nonscape - Woods since it’s a lot different ):

And also some abstract stuff:

The randomizer also made me revive an old idea that was sitting in the corner since june 2023 :open_mouth:

So thanks for the new function, even if it’s not finished yet
(Booleans don’t seem to work yet)

There’s always status update. I even made a Python script to make that easier.

Indeed, this bug has been fixed yesterday. I’ll post new pre-release packages tomorrow (Monday)

Really? I’ve built gmic from pre-release this afternoon ( after randomly clicking on plasma and getting an error about ~float not being a thing) nvm, will try again later.

The pre-release sources have not been released yet with the fix, but you can clone the repository (develop branch) to get the very latest code.

Ah thanks, my build script downloads the dev snapshot, so I guess it’s still a “package”.
Will try to modify it to use git instead.

Someone on GIMPChat found that the “Underwoods” filter throws an error when “Output mode” is set to anything other than “In place”.

All our teams are deployed to investigate on the matter.
The devs responsible for this will be severely punished.

 I didn’t want to put pressure on anyone!

Haha.
For some reason there is a repeat not repeating when you select something other than “in place”, so only one tree is created and name fails to name the second. Strange.

For now, i don’t know why this happens.

Uploaded a fix.
The QC team has been fired and 3 brain cells were executed.

Got some pretty unexpected stuff with the randomizer:

And here’s the new default settings (until i find better ones heh):

Started to make the grass as a standalone too:
