Many thanks for the work to the devs - nice new features.
Even though I’d like to see how that new modules (esp. Color Equalizer) work I’m still not quite sure about upgrading (for the first time since V1.4 when I started to use darktable) because of the removal of those AI options in Color Calibration - I could not find a workaround for this that works equally fast for me.

Thanks for 4.8 and the Appimage added in the last hour or so.
I see the As Shot To Reference change has been implemented, changing the Camera Reference default when you open a new raw. This is quite a significant change and yet I can’t see it mentioned in the release details. Curious.

Please note : darktable 4.8 is meant from macOS 12.5 and up (Monterey).

I do have 12.7.5 (lastest version for Monterey), Darktable has a forbidden sign and refuses to start.

darktable 4.8

This version is not made for Monterey anymore despite the documentation.

Edit: Use version for 10.14 & 11.0 compiled by @MStraeten

Wonderful summer gift

I have updated my scripts to build darktable 4.8 on ubuntu 24.04.
For those interested - I have made tarball here.

I am looking forward to tinker with DT 4.8.

Thanks to all involved; loving the Color Equalizer, especially when color-shaping with the vectorscope. Brilliant work!!

I love this update. The color control is the best I have used in any commercial software. Well done and thank you darktable devs!

yes, it is but in the old lab clut module which can sample colors from image

Just switched on Archlinux from AUR darktable 4.7-git back to stable 4.8.

Thanks to the darktable development community for the excellent work! darktable is a nice example that a FOSS program can outclass its proprietary alternatives.

For those on macOS 14 (14.5) Sonoma, the security seems to have changed again.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone contributing. I’m excited to get back to photography and darktable.

The macOS install xattr terminal commands both produced error codes.

% xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/darktable.app

  • xattr: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: ‘/Applications/darktable.app/Contents/_CodeSignature/CodeResources’

  • xattr: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: ‘/Applications/darktable.app/Contents/_CodeSignature’

*…

I did successfully enable darktable after installing it to the Applications folder via the Systems Settings app as shown.

Hope this helps.

You can still sample the color in the new module… then slide the nodes to line up and adjust but its not the same UI for selecting as the CLUT but it might be better behaved when applying the adjustment …time will tell. I do like the CLUT module and use it from time to time but you have to be careful not to push or artifacts arise…
